The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is the Government Department responsible for prosecuting criminal cases investigated by the police in England and Wales. As the principal prosecuting authority in England and Wales, the CPS sits at the heart of the Criminal Justice System, working in close partnership with the police, courts, the Judiciary and other partners to deliver justice.

Led by the Director of Public Prosecutions, the CPS is a large, complex, geographically dispersed organisation, with a clear sense of purpose, and a broad mandate of great national importance. This includes advising the police on cases for possible prosecution, reviewing cases submitted by the police, determining any charge in all but minor cases, preparing cases for court, and presenting cases at court.

As Deputy Director, Commercial and Estates, you will provide inspirational, strategic and transformational leadership to a team of professional experts, ensuring the CPS is supported by high quality, efficient and effective Commercial, Estates, Sustainability, and Health Safety & Fire functions. With responsibility for professional services including Procurement, Contract and Market Management, you will lead on the delivery of the CPS 5-Year Estates Strategy and estates management, as well as ensuring the CPS complies with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work act and the government’s environmental agenda. As part of the CFO Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will ensure that the CPS has the right resources, right technology, and the best people to deliver better business outcomes both now and in the future.

With a relevant qualification in commercial and/or property, you will need to possess excellent leadership skills, ideally in a large, complex organisation, with a track record of delivering through transformation and delivery. You will need to be an effective communicator and collaborator, capable of engaging effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. This role is open to candidates from a range of sectors, and this role can be based at any one of the many CPS locations in England and Wales (The CPS Areas, CPSD, CPS Central Casework Divisions and CPS Proceeds of Crime | The Crown Prosecution Service).
